PIP reviews

A PIP review checks whether your award still fits your needs. In 2025/26, DWP made 759,530 review decisions: 75% of awards stayed the same, 14% went up, 5% went down and 6% stopped.

How a review works

Your award letter says when your claim will end and whether it will be reviewed. For a review, DWP sends a form called Personal Independence Payment Review, which you need to return within 1 month. Contact the PIP enquiry line if you need more time.

You keep getting PIP while your claim is reviewed. A health professional might phone you or invite you to an assessment, in person, by phone or by video. If your needs have changed, your PIP might be increased, reduced or stopped.

What can trigger a review

You must tell DWP straight away if, for example, you need more or less help with everyday tasks, go into hospital or a care home, go abroad for more than 4 weeks, or move to Scotland. Working isn't on gov.uk's list of changes to report. Since 30 April 2026, the regulations say that doing paid or voluntary work isn't a reason for DWP to look at your award again.

If you disagree with the outcome

You usually have one month from the date on your decision letter to ask for a mandatory reconsideration. You can ask later if you have a good reason, such as a stay in hospital or a bereavement. More on mandatory reconsideration.
