Tribunal statistics change how PIP hearings are counted

From this release the Ministry of Justice counts appeals withdrawn or struck out on the day of a hearing as cleared at the hearing, and it revised its figures back to April 2023 on that basis. Hearing counts before and after April 2023 aren't like for like.

Timms Review publishes its emerging recommendations

The co-chairs' September update set out emerging ideas, such as fewer reviews for lifelong conditions, a better claim form and more face-to-face assessments. They said these aren't their final recommendations, which come in a final report later this autumn. The update doesn't mention descriptors or points.

Timms Review interim report

The review of the PIP assessment published an interim report. It makes no recommendations yet; those come in the final report this autumn, and the government then decides what to do with them.

Working is no longer a reason to look at a PIP award again

New regulations say that doing paid or voluntary work isn't a reason for DWP to make a fresh decision on someone's PIP. DWP can still review an award for other reasons.

PIP rates go up 3.8% for 2026/27

The enhanced daily living rate rose from £110.40 to £114.60 a week and the enhanced mobility rate from £77.05 to £80.00. The standard rates rose to £76.70 and £30.30.

The review's scope includes the assessment criteria, including activities, descriptors and points. It aims to report in autumn 2026, and the government then decides what to take forward.
